On July 17, the city held a 5G network and communication base station construction promotion meeting in the city government conference room on the seventh floor of the city administrative center to analyze the situation, research and deploy to accelerate the construction of the city’s information infrastructure. Vice Mayor Wu Weiguo attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

At the meeting, the leaders of the Municipal Bureau of Science, Industry and Commerce reported on the city's information infrastructure construction. Telecom operators such as China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom, as well as relevant persons in charge of the Maoming Branch of the Tower made speeches respectively.

It is understood that, in order to accelerate the construction of information infrastructure and 5G, the city is actively coordinating the development of the 5G industry and applications by the Tower Company, Huazhou Mobile, Huazhou Telecom, and Huazhou Unicom. As of the end of May 2020, 244 5G base stations have been built (including 100 of Huazhou Mobile, 72 of Huazhou Telecom, and 72 of Huazhou Unicom).

Wu Weiguo emphasized at the meeting that we must clearly understand the situation and attach great importance to the construction of information infrastructure; we must improve political positions, strengthen organizational leadership, compact responsibilities, and complete tasks; we must play the role of the main body of the enterprise; we must strengthen land security and open up open resources. Improve the efficiency of examination and approval, protect the information infrastructure, and strengthen publicity and guidance. At the same time, relevant units, departments and enterprises should strengthen cooperation and coordination to speed up the construction of the city's information infrastructure, seize the commanding heights of the development of the 5G application industry, promote 5G innovative applications, and contribute to the city's industrial transformation and upgrading.
